Dear Friends

From the bottom of my heart I am pleased to welcome the athletes, coaches and representatives of the Russian and foreign sports delegations at Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix Tournament in Tyumen.

I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the Administration of Tyumen Region and Governor Vladimir Yakushev for their contribution in producing the physically healthy youth and urging them to do sports regularly.

Greco-Roman wrestling is an ancient sport practiced for over 2000 years and it is very popular in Tyumen. The most notable wrestler of the Tyumen region is Vladimir Cheboksarov, a USSR Merited Sports Master and repeated World and European champion and prize winner.

Wrestling is the special attitude to life that teaches to overcome difficulties and achieve set goals.

Wrestling is the yearning for spiritual and physical perfection, cultivation of character and qualities essential for the real man not only at sports arena but in daily life too.

Ivan Poddubny, the symbol of wrestling in Russia, is unofficially recognized by right as ‘The Champion of champions’. Russia has been hosting tournaments in his memory since 1962.

Ivan Poddubny Tournament is being held in Tyumen for the third time, on the same year as the XXX London Olympic Games. This is one of the main stages for wrestlers of Russia to be selected for an Olympic team.

Competitions of such high international level will give incentive to the hundreds of youth come to gym and will serve to further popularization of this spectacular and dynamic sport.

No doubt, we will see the brilliant and memorable dual-meets of Russian and foreign masters of Greco-Roman wrestling. It is always an exciting spectacle and a real feast for fans of this wonderful sport.

From the bottom of my heart I wish success to the participants in demonstrating their spectacular and substantial performances and indelible impressions from dual-meets to the spectators.

Mikhail Mamiashvili ,
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Olympic Champion

Dear Friends

I am pleased to welcome the participants and guests of the International Greco-Roman Wrestling Tournament ‘Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix’. Tyumen is hosting this prestigious forum for the third time. The prize winners of the Olympics and World championships are traditionally present as well as the young and ambitious talents who strive for making their way towards the elite of classic wrestling.

The Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix has been held for over half a century. The winners of this Tournament have become successful global players in Greco-Roman wrestling. Success of Rustam Totrov is one of the bright examples. Only a year ago Tyumen fans rejoiced over his victory at the 50th Anniversary Tournament in memory of Ivan Poddubny. After this Rustam was included in a national team, won a world bronze medal and obtained a license for the 2012 Olympic Games. I am confident that achievements of this notable athlete will serve as a role model for the Tyumen wrestling school’s youth, urge their perseverance and purposefulness during trainings and help to achieve winning results. Presently, more than three thousand Tyumen residents are actively practicing Greco-Roman wrestling and defend the honor of the region at various tournaments. .

I congratulate all the wrestling fans with a new opportunity to enjoy the high skill of the world leading athletes. I do not doubt that fans will see the staggering dual-meets, including those who challenge for participating at the 2012 London Olympics. With all my heart I wish spectacular performances to the fans, fair and uncompromising dual-meets - to the wrestlers, and everyone who love sports – the wonderful victories and impressive achievements.

Vladimir Yakushev,
Governor of the Tyumen region
